I HAVE CONTACTED MY LEGISLATURES VIA EMAIL, SO FAR NO ONE HAS RESPONDED. AS A LAST RESORT I SENT LETTERS TO THEIR HOMES ASKING FOR SUPPORT BY SPONSORING AN WORKPLACE BULLYING BILL, SINCE THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP FOR YEARS AND KNOW ONE PUSHED THE ISSUE OUR GOVERNMENT NEVER ADDRESSED IT OR GAVE IT ANY SERIOUS ATTENTION. I HAVE AN ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN POST ON CHANGE.ORG UNDER  THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE TAB BECAUSE A LOT OF THE BULLYING WE HAVE ENDURED IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE. AGAIN I ASK EVERYONE TO CONTACT THE LEGISLATURES AND LETS COLLABORATE TO BRING AWARENESS AND HELP EACH OTHER.

  1. Thank-you thank-you for the information that I have read. I have had a job for 30 yrs+ at a Major corporation and there have been so many BULLYING BOSSES that I have had to deal with. Because of my knowledge of the human condition, I can see right though these people. Unfortunately they are the bosses and I am the associate. Everything that I read rang true. Every line and every word could not have been more true. I want to be a part of this crusade. I will work hard to end the suffering of so many wonderful, nice, sympathic, understanding, diligent, hard-working people. We all suffer within for one reason or another. Some have it worse than others. It has been a living nightmare for me for many years. Many people are affected and infected by those that bully. As one knows it doesn’t have to be just bosses. I also agree whole-heartedly about the Mobbing issue. May many people are followers. As liin a GANG MENTALITY…many join the group that bully. Please let me know what I can do to paticipate in this crusade. Thank-you very much.

  2. I know I am a victim of workplace bullying! I don’t get how these bullies can make accusations with nothing to back them up and get away with it! Just when you think they are caught, they use personal issues as escuses to make people feel sorry for them and so they overlook the wrong doing. My bully is able to walk into the directors office, make accusations and by the time I get to explain my side it doesn’t even seem to matter. I can pretty much predict when an episode is gonna happen and it’s usually if I hear the bully is having personal problems or got yelled at for a work issue. The act nice to your face but you know the storm os brewing and it’s “Beware time”. I would quit my job but with the economy, I am pretty much stuck. I try to stay away and my boss has caught on to things but the director seems to be on the bully’s side. I just take it day to day and hope the bully will soon be found out!

  3. I would also like to add that this has affected my emotional and physical state. When they say bullies hit when your are most vulnerable I would totally agree., for me it was when I was pregnant! I have dealt with stress in other jobs but it wasn’t until I came across this bully that I remember I started to need treatment. When my stress level went up it affected my blood pressure, which seemed to happen after dealing with this bully, I would need medicine. The bp was worse when I was pregnant but after an bully issue (towards then end of my pregancy) it seemed to push me overboard. I was pulled off work an induced early.

  5. Dear Upset,
I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you. I have thought of you often since the day you wrote and started responses to you a dozen times, but being a bit emotionally stuck after finally losing my job I couldn’t find the right words until just now – GET OUT OF THAT JOB AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN !!! The longer you stay in that no win situation, the longer it will take you to get over it and move on, after it’s over. The BIGGEST mistake I made, was sticking it out too long!! I damaged my physical and emotional health to a greater extent than I thought imaginable thinking I could outwit or out-live (my bully is over retirement age too) a bully – I was very wrong and I hope my experience can spare you and all targets. Targets should leave their jobs as quickly as possible after coming to realize that they’re experiencing bullying/mobbing. It’s a well known fact, that once a person realizes they are being bullied, it’s already to late to save their job. Get out now! No job is worth risking your health over and you WILL survive after you leave! BUT, do take pause and thought and leave professionally. Be kind to coworkers in your final days and DON’T bad mouth the bully! Then rejoice, take pause, and heal! Free from the bully at last! I wish you the best! ABC

  6. Dear upset,

    Consider this.

Your bully is 78. I don’t know how long she has been working for the institution in question but it’s my guess that it’s a good, long time. Long enough for her to become so ingrained a part of the institution that it cannot imagine surviving without her, any more than she can imagine the instiution surviving without her. Or, and this is the important bit, than she can imagine surviving long without the institution to provide her with a reason for living.

It’s likely therefore that this is, in her mind, a battle for survival- her own, and the place she has devoted her life to. You, you stand in the way of that survival. To her, you are more than a menace, you are the avatar of death, spiritual as well as probably, in her mind, physical.

    So it’s her or you.

The question you must consider is – do you want it to be you ?

Because make no mistake, she does.

So, what can you do to protect yourself ? Well, if she’s so valuable to your employers that they are keeping her on at 78 it’s unlikely they are going to do anything about her, no matter how strong your case may be. So let’s be honest, your employers aren’t going to protect you.

Your workmates ? Forget it. My own experience teaches me that they may sympathise – but that’s as far as it will go. Secretly, inside, they all thank God for you, because you’re keeping her occupied and they canget on with whatever scams they are running.

So, it’s down to you, upset. You have to take positive action on your own behalf.

ABC speaks true – quit. Find another job, empower yourself. Because if you stay, it’ll just get worse…

I know – it’s a scary thought, a real scary thought. But better to embrace that thought and work out an escape plan than stay in a prison for your soul.

Best wishes, and my thoughts are with you,

    Dave

  7. In Ontario, Canada we have Bill 168, which deals with workplace violence, bullying, and harassment. This Bill came into effect as of June 15, 2010. I left my job in October, 2011 and had been dealing with workplace bullying and harassment for 2 years. I did everything I was suppose to and the Ministry, as well as my boss’s boss, have let me down after providing them with 27 pages of documented dates, times, and witnesses. Bill 168 is a joke and gives the impression it was put in place to help employees, but it’s for the employers and only the employers. I have yet to see anyone but the employer benefit from this.

I hope that if you do get a Bill passed, it will be beneficial because our’s isn’t and it’s extremely frustrating.

  9. Someone mentioned that by the time they got to explain their side, nobody cared. I never had the opportunity to explain. Our HR head has no idea what a bully boss is because at no point was I asked for, nor allowed to state my position. Someone seriously needs to inform and educate about this type of boss.

  10. Ditto that! Our HR person gave me zero opportunity to state my side. I was sucker punched into termination, never saw it coming. HR directors and their staff need to be educated on the effects of bully bosses not just to employees, but to the business!
